MANILA, 22 November 2011 – A grand celebration at Manila’s SM Mall of Asia on Friday, marked an end to Yahoo! Philippines’ five-week online adventure – the Purple Hunt Family Edition 3.0 – which saw the mother-daughter team of Carolyn M. Beronilla and Catherine Ester Beronilla from Las PiƱas, walk away with the coveted prize of a P 2.2 million condo by Camella Homes.
Hosted by Chloe McCulley, the 2011 Miss World Philippines 2nd Princess, the event attracted over 400 Filipinos to take part in daylong activities that involved live music performance from the popular rock band, The Dawn, games and interactive contests.
In the build up to the grand finale, Purple Hunters took away exciting prizes such as Globe Tattoo prepaid broadband sticks, flight tickets to Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu, Busuanga, Cagayan de Oro and Singapore from Airphil Express, McDonald’s birthday party packages, MyPhone mobile phones and Yahoo! giveaways.
Family contestants competed head-to-head in six challenges: Yahoo! bring me, Multiple choice game, Y! Hunt, Draw your Avatar, Longest Yodel and Waveplay to reach the final round of elimination: All in the Family. The three finalists were asked to visit the condo model unit and posed a series of questions based on what was inside.
The Beronilla family, the last team standing, was announced the winner amidst a blast of confetti, thunderous applause and congratulatory wishes from Arlene Amarante, the Country Ambassador for Yahoo! Philippines and members of the sponsoring organizations including, Camella Homes, Globe Telecom, Mc Donalds, Air Phil Express and MyPhone mobile phones.
“Tonight we celebrate the finale of yet another successful Yahoo! Purple Hunt, an initiative that connects Filipinos with one another, engaging their passions and interests and ultimately, making a positive contribution to society,” said Ms Amarante.
She added, “Of the 22 million Internet users in the Philippines, 91% are Yahoo! users and use our products and properties daily – whether it is to bring down the communication barrier, to search and share information, expand their horizons and connect with the world. The Purple Hunt campaign links Yahoo!’s brand promise to transform the lives of people through simple, trusted, best-in-class products, content, tools, and services that help our users make the most of the digital world.”
The online adventure, now in its third year, was launched for the whole family in October.
With neither a map nor a compass required, Purple Hunters simply needed log onto http://purplehunt.com.ph to unlock online clues, discover interesting insights about the web using various Yahoo! properties and spend quality time bonding. The campaign also brought awareness about Internet safety by promoting responsible use of the Internet and appropriate netiquette.
