LRI Design Plaza celebrates 7th anniversary with Mañosa and Capili

In celebration of its seventh year as the home of design and art aficionados, LRI Design Plaza featured two different exhibits that enlivened the metro’s arts scene in its 7th Anniversary Artists Series. The exhibits paid homage to world-class Filipino talent by top-billing two of the country’s influential artists, Ani ng Dangal Presidential Awardee for Visual Art Rosscapili and National Artist Francisco “Bobby” Mañosa.

ANALOGous: A Showcase of Retro and Classic Pieces

The LRI Design Plaza 7th Anniversary Artists Series was kicked-off by an eclectic treat perfect for audiophiles and lovers of visual art: Ross Capili’s ANALOGous: DeTubo + Debuho + Lumang Plaka + Bagong IDeya. The project, which was in collaboration with OneWorkshop and interior designer Pinky Peralta, showcased a mix of retro and classic pieces, offering a nostalgic repertoire of sound and interior design. Peralta had six set ups – Filipino Vernacular, Casual Classic, Modern Funky, Bohemian, Post Modern, and Retro spread that were complemented by tunes from vinyl records (long-playing record albums) and vintage deTubo amplifiers. Another highlight of the night was Heber Bartolome, famed Pinoy folk singer and founder of the protest band Banyuhay, who led a jamming session with his trademark hit Tayo’y Mga Pinoy. Guests young and old all sang along to the patriotic tune, successfully capping off Rosscapili’s successful opening night.

Design and architecture Beyond the Bahay-Kubo

The next exhibit paid tribute to indigenous architecture and design as pioneered by National Artist Bobby Mañosa through Beyond the Bahay-Kubo. The well-attended opening night welcomed top architects and leaders of the local interior design sphere, making the exhibit another successful reunion of artists at LRI Design Plaza.Featuring the trademark Mañosa motif of incorporating indigenous materials into structures, Beyond the Bahay-Kubo highlighted the artist’s works in buildings, resorts and residences, as well as his design philosophy via a display of scale models of his biggest projects and pictures of his past works. He also took time out to sign copies of his book, Designing Filipino: The Architecture of Francisco Mañosa, which was sold at the venue.

For seven years now, the LRI Design Plaza has been the renowned urban hub for art and design enthusiasts, offering statement pieces for those with discriminating tastes. Chicken and Assorted Mushrooms Pasta

1 tablespoon oil
¼ cup onions, thinly sliced
¼ cup button mushrooms, chopped
¼ cup straw mushrooms, chopped
¼ cup tomato paste
2 tablespoons brown sugar
¼ cup unsalted butter or margarine
2 cups EL REAL Curly Macaroni, cooked to package directions
To taste salt and pepper
5 pieces chicken nuggets, fried and sliced

In a pan, sauté onions, button and straw mushrooms. Add tomato paste, sugar and butter. Cook for 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Toss in cooked EL REAL Curly Macaroni and mix. Transfer to a plate and top with fried chicken nuggets. Serve.

Sunrise Pasta

1 tablespoon oil
½ cup onions, minced
2 tablespoons garlic, minced
